Biochemistry is the most progressive field of Medicine globally, trying to explain diseases at the molecular levels, evolve early diagnostic and novel therapeutic approaches with the aim of relieving patients of their pain and sufferings. The Department of Biochemistry at Subharti Medical College is working relentlessly with the same motto. The main purpose of our Department is to provide world-class Medical education and hands on training in Medical Biochemistry and research to undergraduate and post-graduate students, which we try to achieve with the commitment of our dedicated team of faculty members, who being themselves trained in the premier institutes of our country, can not only guide, but also inspire students and nurture their zeal to learn.
The Department of Biochemistry has been developed with the elaborate infrastructure as prescribed by the Medical Council of India and has grown up as one of the largest departments in the State of Uttar Pradesh. The department caters to all the facets of Biochemistry besides being recommended as a referral investigative centre.
It is backed up with non-clinical, paraclinical and clinical departments of all specialities of Subharti Medical College, Meerut.
The Institutional central library of the college has a large and impressive collection of over ten thousand books of all specialities and the library subscribes to the journals of different subjects, both Indian and Foreign. The volumes of journals of three consecutive years are maintained in the respective departments, while the old issues are maintained for reference in the central library. This is apart from an exhaustive departmental library with an internet facility for ready reference.
The clinical division of the department of Biochemistry caters to the need of the parent 1200 bedded CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI SUBHARTI HOSPITAL, MEERUT, and functions round the clock. In 2008, the department was allowed permission for starting the PG degree course vide letter of permission no. The biochemistry laboratory is granted accreditation by NABL, handles a massive workload of routine and emergency tests per day. Departmental lab is equipped with two modern fully automatic analyzers with their respective backups and facility of multiple modules. The Laboratory has well defined turnaround time (TAT) for each analyte and strictly follows that to facilitate clinicians in best possible patient care. Siemens Dimension Rxl max Integrated chemistry system provides maximum productivity with ability to run up to 91 methods onboard concurrently. Modules available are UV spectrophotometer, Ion selective electrode, Loci and Photometry. The most commonly performed investigation in routine are Diabetic Panel, Lipid Profile, Anemia profile, Cardiac markers, LFT, KFT and Serum electrolytes. Siemens Centaur XP Direct Chemiluminescence Immunoassay system using Acridinium ester is advance technology for special investigation in field of endocrinology and clinical enzymology. Routinely performed tests are Thyroid profile, Bone Turn over markers, Tumor markers, Infertility panel, Insulin, Vitamins D & B12.
