The foundation of educational and health care services can be traced back to the establishment of Subharti K.K.B.Charitable Trust in 1995 and subsequent opening of the N.S.C.B.Subharti Medical College, Meerut to fulfil its promises of not only providing world class health care for the people but also to provide excellent educational facilities for students from across the country. Being the back bone of any hospital or Medical College, the department of Radio-diagnosis plays immense role in the management of patient in giving the diagnosis of lesion. This is located in the main OPD block of C.S.S. Hospital and covering an area of 1118 sq.m., which started as an x-ray department way back in 2001 with permission to start medical college, “Subharti Medical College” by Ministry of health and Family Welfare vide letter no. 12012/69/96-ME (P) dated 23.01.2001 for 100 UG students (now 150 UG Students since 2010). The start of the department was with one 300mA X-Ray unit and one B/W portable USG unit and now boasts of fully equipped and modernized imaging department catering to patient and clinician needs in diagnostic imaging and image guided diagnostic procedures including interventional Radiology.

The department has all modern diagnostic facilities like 1.5Tesla MRI scanner with work station, CT scanner, diagnostic X-ray equipments with IITV facility, ultrasound, colour Doppler, 3D-4D USG and mammography unit, CR system with DW camera and Digital subs traction angiography unit (DSA). The department gives round the clock diagnostic and emergency services to cater the needs of rural population in the region in and around Meerut city of Western Uttar Pradesh. The diagnostic services are provided at reasonable rates and during the camps most of indoor x-rays and USG examinations are done free of cost. Academic and research activities go simultaneously with health delivery system of medical college. The Radio-diagnosis department was upgraded to the postgraduate teaching department vide letter no. U.12012/231/2008-ME (P-II) dated 31.03.2009 permitting two (2) post graduate students per year for M.D. Radio-diagnosis course. In the year 2011 the department was further permitted to increase three (3) additional P.G. students for M.D. in Radio-diagnosis, increasing the total seats to Five (5)/year vide letter no.MCI-50(22)/2010-Med.521 dated 31.03.2011/01.04.2011. The department is having full time teaching and training program for Diploma, B.Sc., and M.Sc. X-Ray Technician’s courses.


The goal of the department is to orient and train the students on different aspects of diagnostics and interventional Radiology in the diseases of various systems of human body with academic activities of highest order to achieve research orientation. With these goals student achieve the objective of:
- Understanding the basics of x-ray production, its uses and hazards
- Appreciating and diagnosing the changes in bones – like fractures, infections, tumours and metabolic bone diseases
- To identify and diagnose various radiological changes in disease conditions of Chest and Mediastinum, Musculo-skeletal system, Gastro Intestinal Tract, Hepatobiliary system and Genito Urinary (G.U.) system, Nervous System etc.
- To learn about various imaging techniques, including Ultrasongraphy (USG), Computerised Tomography (C.T.), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (M.R.I.), Nuclear Imaging and D.S.A.

1. Participate in clinical meeting with Orthopaedics, Surgery, Medicine & Pathology etc.
2. Modality based guided aspiration, cytology and biopsies for cyto or histopathology
3. Training & teaching of PG students.
4. Carry out interventional procedures


- MBBS teaching is aimed to enable them to be able to diagnose common diseases with the help of conventional X-Ray, Special procedures & other available imaging modalities.
- MD (Radio-diagnosis) students are to be trained for diagnosing common & rare diseases with the help of various imaging modalities. They are trained to use the USG machine including colour Doppler & TVS. They are also trained to be familiar with mammography x-ray unit, CT, MRI & DSA machines & to be able to perform image guided interventional procedures. P.G students are encouraged to acquire knowledge of recent advancement in the field of Radio-diagnosis.
- Course of Diploma X-Ray Technician and B.Sc., M.Sc. (MIT): A 2 years course is being run in the department
